Here are some of the potential risks associated with a rhinoplasty:
Bleeding: There’s a risk of minor bleeding following the surgery, but significant bleeding is unusual. If you experience prolonged bleeding, contact your doctor immediately.
Infection: While uncommon, there’s a small chance of developing an infection post-surgery. If this happens, it is usually treatable with antibiotics.
Difficulty Breathing: Some people may experience difficulty breathing through their nose after surgery. This is usually temporary but may be long-term in some cases.
Asymmetry: While Dr. Tim strives for perfect symmetry, the human face is naturally asymmetrical, and there may be slight differences in the shape and structure of your nostrils or nasal bones.

Recovery from Rhinoplasty (Nose Reshaping)
Directly After Surgery
Following the procedure, your nose may be placed in a splint. This helps to support the new shape of the nose as it heals. Nasal packs or soft plastic splints also might be placed in your nostrils to stabilise the septum.
It’s normal to experience swelling and some bruising around the eyes after surgery that will begin to improve after the third day. Most people feel ready to go out in public and back to work in about 1-2 weeks. Cold compresses often help reduce the bruising and discomfort.
Weeks Following Surgery
In the first few weeks after surgery, you’ll need to avoid strenuous activities, such as heavy lifting or vigorous exercise. It’s also advised to avoid blowing your nose, excessive chewing, any clothes that need to be pulled over the head, and any extreme facial expressions.
The majority of swelling should resolve within a few weeks, but some minor swelling — (usually unnoticeable to anyone but you and Dr. Tim) — can remain for several months.
Long-Term Recovery
While initial swelling subsides within a few weeks, it may take up to a year for your new nasal contour to fully refine. During this time you may notice gradual changes in the appearance of your nose as it refines to a more permanent outcome.
It’s important to protect your skin from the sun while your nose is healing. Too much sun may cause permanent irregular discoloration in your nose’s skin.
Post-operative visits with Dr. Tim will be scheduled to monitor your progress. These follow-ups are a key part of your recovery and ensure that you are healing as expected.
Every patient’s recovery process is unique, so it’s important to follow all postoperative instructions provided by Dr. Tim or his team. This includes information about wearing compression garments, care of your drains, taking an antibiotic if prescribed, and the level and type of activity that is safe. Your team will also provide detailed instructions about the normal symptoms and how to spot any signs of complications.
